The Canadian Teachers’ Federation invites you to bring both expertise and an open mind to the presentations and discussions of this year’s CTF President’s Forum which will explore challenging issues in First Nations, Métis, and Inuit education in Canada. The Forum will hear perspectives of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Canadians, Government, students, teachers and, (to the extent you speak up) you. Attendees are expected from many parts of society both inside and outside the educational community including Bands, schools, school boards, Federal and Provincial/Territorial Ministries, agencies and organizations. The broader the audience; the better the discussion. The Forum schedule builds in discussion and question time.
There is a general belief that better education for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students on and off Reserve throughout Canada is possible and essential. The CTF President’s Forum is part of a search for improvement. Presentations and discussions will aid CTF in shaping its approach to these issues as the national representative of teachers and teacher organizations.
The Forum provides you an opportunity to interact with:
· Key leaders from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit organizations including: Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Idle No More
· Key leaders from educational organizations including: CTF, Provincial/Territorial teacher organizations, Ministries of Education, School Boards, Parent Groups
· Key leaders from Government including Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada
Build your knowledge; build your network; build your influence! by being part of the President’s Forum. This is a unique opportunity for the sharing of perspectives on an issue that affects us all.
The event will be at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Ottawa all day Monday, July 8, 2013 and Tuesday, July 9, 2013 until 1:30 p.m. Registration includes refreshment breaks, Monday lunch and a late afternoon reception.
