CAREC Post-conference at CSSE 2014

Conference Call For Proposals: “The ‘Wild’ Classroom in Early Childhood Education: (Re)Imagining Learning and Being in the Outdoors”

The CANADIAN ASSOCIATION FOR RESEARCH IN EARLY CHILDHOOD (CAREC) IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FOREST SCHOOL CANADA
Post-CSSE Conference
May 29th, 2014
Brock University
St. Catharines, Ontario

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes a child’s right to play and children’s use of space for play is a key theme within research literature. Yet as Gill (2005) cautioned, “…children are disappearing from the outdoors at a rate that would make the top of any conservationist’s list of endangered species if they were any other member of the animal kingdom”. The ‘wild’ and natural outdoor environment represents a dynamic, imaginative, engaging, and inviting play context that enables children to develop holistically, fostering a positive sense of self and competency as a learner. Join scholars, researchers, and practitioners for an informative and engaging day of provoking conversations and critical dialogue as we imagine and re—‐imagine the significance and role of ‘wild’ and natural outdoor spaces for children’s holistic development, learning, and well—‐being within the Canadian early childhood education field.

Post—‐Conference Format
Our full—‐day conference will begin with a short welcoming ceremony, followed by one 75 minute ‘invited’ presentation. Each break out session will be one hour in length and consist of 2 distinct presentations.
