Mosaics of Possibilities: Researching and Teaching through the Arts in Early Childhood Education
Thursday, 2 June 2016, University of Calgary
Artistic expressions, like story-‐telling, music, drama, dance and visual arts—are commonplace within early childhood education. For educators, the arts provide a window to a child’s inner canvas, while children engage with the arts as a medium of expression, creativity, and emotional and social connection to the world around them (Fraser, 2012). Additionally, the arts contribute to the ‘mosaic’ of methodological tools (Clark & Moss, 2011) that support visual, participatory methods in conducting research with and alongside children. Please join scholars, researchers, and practitioners for an informative and engaging day of presentations, networking, and critical dialogue on the role of the arts in early childhood education.
