McGill Journal of Education

ASSISTANT FRENCH EDITOR

The MJE is seeking an Assistant French Editor.  Founded in 1966, the McGill Journal of Education (MJE) is a leading bilingual scholarly journal in Canada. Hosted in McGill’s Faculty of Education with an editorial collaboration from both McGill and Université de Montréal, it is a generalist open-access journal that publishes on a broad range of topics and concerns related to education, with articles published in French and English. The journal publishes three times a year.

The Assistant French Editor would have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with the MJE editorial team, and especially with Associate Editor, Marc André Éthier (Professor, Université de Montréal) as well as with Managing Editor, Sylvie Wald. The Assistant French Editor would be an integral part of the editorial team, involved in shaping the overall direction of the journal with regard to encouraging submissions from Francophonie within Quebec, Canada, and internationally. The journal is poised in an exciting time with possibilities for innovation drawing on digital media.

The main role of the Assistant French Editor would be to share responsibility with Dr. Éthier for manuscripts submitted in French. This includes tracking and managing manuscripts from submission through to publication, including copyediting (for general submissions) during the publication phase. The position would also involve tasks such as verifying the work of MJE translators (manuscript metadata and internal documentation), working with the Managing Editor on reviewing the French content on the MJE site and in documents to ensure consistency in language, as well as addressing other tasks that may arise concerning the use of French in the journal.

We are looking for someone who would be willing to commit to at least a 2-year editorship. The individual would need to be fully proficient in the French language. This position would be ideal for a tenure-track or assistant professor who may be looking to expand their academic networks, learn about the rapidly advancing world of journal publishing, and work as part of an inter-university editorial team.

Kindly send CV and cover letter (in French) to Managing Editor, Sylvie Wald (mje.education@mcgill.ca), by 29 February 2016.
