NEWS: Call for French editor, McGill Journal of Education

Assistant French Editor [PDF version]

The McGill Journal of Education/Revue des sciences de l’éducation de McGill (MJE/RSEM) is seeking an Assistant French Editor. Founded in 1966, the MJE is a leading Canadian bilingual scholarly journal with a longstanding commitment to manuscripts published in English and French. Hosted in McGill’s Faculty of Education with an editorial collaboration from Université du Québec en Outaouais, the MJE is a generalist open-access journal that publishes three times a year on a broad range of topics related to education.

The Assistant French Editor will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with the MJE editorial team, and especially with Associate Editors Vincent Boutonnet and Jérôme St-Amand, as well as with Managing Editors Phillipe Paquin Goulet and Marianne Filion. The Assistant Editor will share responsibility with Dr St-Amand for manuscripts submitted in French, and be mentored by Dr Boutonnet and Dr St-Amand. The Assistant Editor will be an integral part of the editorial team, involved in shaping the overall intellectual direction of the journal and encouraging submissions from within Quebec and Canada, and from the greater Francophonie.

The tasks of the Assistant Editor will include the following:
– Assigning reviewers to a manuscript;
– Issuing publication decisions based on reviewer evaluations;
– Communicating with authors and reviewers;
– Undertaking a close reading of manuscripts prior to publication.

The Editor may also be involved in organizing special issues and/or mini-special issues. The Editor will also be actively engaged in outreach, encouraging authors to submit manuscripts to the journal; consulting with, as well as recommending international editorial board members; and promoting the journal widely throughout Francophonie as well as within educational communities.

The journal is looking for applicants willing to commit to at least a three-year editorship. The individual should be fully proficient in the French language. This position would be ideal for a tenure-track or assistant professor looking to expand their academic network, to learn about the rapidly advancing world of journal publishing, and to work as part of a bilingual inter-university editorial team.

Please kindly include a resumé and cover letter (in French) addressed to Editor-in-Chief Teresa Strong-Wilson in your application, and send it electronically to the Managing Editor (mje.education@mcgill.ca) by March 15, 2020.
