NEWS: CSSE 2021 conference will be virtual

Aniin ni dinowaymahginitook, hello all my relations.

Dear members,

I hope this message finds you and your families well.

As you may know, the Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences recently announced that Congress 2021 will be held entirely online. The CSSE executive have met and decided that CSSE 2021 will move ahead in this online format.

To support a successful online experience, the executive have made adjustments to the conference structure. CSSE 2021 will take place over 5 days, from Sunday, May 30 to Thursday, June 3, with pre-conferences on Saturday, May 29, and post-conferences on Friday, June 4. The program schedule for each day will be shortened to account for time zone differences, screen fatigue, and opportunities for networking and breaks between sessions.

We recognize the challenges that this year has brought for all of us, and that those challenges will influence how we gather this Spring. We echo the Federation’s commitment to upholding the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) across all CSSE activities. While this year’s conference will look different than in the past, it allows us to be adaptive, creative, and innovative in how we come together and share our research in accessible and meaningful ways.

As we move forward together, we will share further details regarding the conference, including registration costs, support for presenting in online spaces, and the revised program structure.

Gitchi-miigwetch/thank you for joining us in this journey. We look forward to connecting with you for CSSE 2021 and beyond

Kikawāpamin mīnawa and warm regards,

Jacqueline Ottmann

President, CSSE
