Deadline: 15 November 2024
The Educational Studies journal invites scholars to contribute to an upcoming special issue dedicated to exploring the multifaceted landscape of education within the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates).
The BRICS states represent diverse educational systems, cultural contexts, and socio-economic challenges, offering rich ground for comparative analysis and original research. We welcome contributions that address various dimensions of education within the BRICS framework, including but not limited to

  • Policy and governance in education
  • Cultural heritage and values in education
  • Curriculum development and reform
  • Extracurricular and informal education
  • Equity, access, and inclusion
  • Relevant evaluation and assessment metrics in education
  • Teacher education and professional development
  • Higher education dynamics and challenges
Guest Editors

  • Liesel Ebersöhn, University of Pretoria, South Africa
  • Geovana Mendonça Lunardi Mendes, Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, Brazil
  • Sergey Kosaretsky, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Russia
Submissions may include empirical studies, theoretical analyses, literature reviews and book reviews. In relation to literature reviews and meta-analyses, we enthusiastically invite papers that encompass examination of research written in languages of the BRICS countries.

We particularly encourage *interdisciplinary and comparative approaches* that shed light on the complexities and nuances of educational practices and reforms across the BRICS nations. Papers focusing on comparative research within the education systems of several of the long list of BRICS countries are of interest.

Submissions should demonstrate methodological rigour, strong empirical data, relevance to the broader discourse on education, and knowledge in the BRICS context.
